TIME PASSAGES
CAMROSE DUCOTE & ALAYNE SPAFFORD joint exhibition
SEPTEMBER 2 – OCTOBER 5
Sopa is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Canadian artists, Camrose Ducote and Alayne Spafford in Time Passages.
Alliteration is evident in both these artists work, and practice. Employing visual form to preserve their experiences, both artists use repetition almost like a chant or rhythm. Through this process, we sense a clear meditative state which evolved over years of trials and creation. Repetition offers comfort in its familiarity and allows artists to give form to memories and record personal experiences, while ensuring in its deconstruction, we can find peace. Combining gestural marking and color mapping on their 'canvases', we become aware of space, with references to time and observation between those passages. Even though both artists draw on history and other influences, neither artist's work lends itself to any stylized art movement, preferring to forge new paths and follow their own mantras.
Time Passages will be on display through October 5th, with the opening night on First Thursday, September 2nd from 7-9pm.
