‘Songs of Love’
Sopa Fine Arts is pleased to announce that the Phil Darrah exhibition, Songs of Love will be on view March 1 through April 3, 2007. This exhibition features large scale acrylic paintings that celebrate what Darrah is most known for; quality of light, masterfully mixed pigments and geometrically arranged compositions.
This newest body of works seem to be characterized by a greater clarity of color and a wider range of tonality than his previous work. There appears to be a more deliberate and varied play with shape and in some cases the shapes and pictorial geometry allude to particular painting genres. In others, the geometry and formats, are more formal and derive their energy from placement and rhythm. The works are larger than in the recent past and the paint more restrained with variety of surface being achieved with a careful use of collage. Darrah’s new paintings seem more lyrical and convey a strong sense of timelessness.
About this work, Darrah remarks, “I find I think of them as ‘Songs’. Songs of what kind I am not sure but I am pleased to note that they are not laments. Perhaps "Songs of Love" would be best.”
