Re:Turn – MICHAEL ADAMSON solo exhibition

OPENING RECEPTION:THURSDAY, JULY 1st 7-9PM
Welcoming Toronto's hottest young artist, Sopa is delighted to introduce Michael Adamson to Kelowna. Returning to his well known 'block & dot' style work, exclusively for this exhibition, Adamson shows us why he's considered one of the top painters in Canada.
If the Impressionists made us aware of the painted nature of their pictures by highlighting the brushstroke and the Abstract Expressionists made us aware of the nature of paint and the painting process by demonstrating experiments then perhaps we can be brought to a discovery of the physical and sculptural aspects of painting by the dots in these works.
Adamson's interest in patterns, textures and colour harmonies are concerns that unite painters across time and genre, and remain important to forward-looking artists. Yet, there is nothing derivative here, inspired by a range of subject matter from his experiences abroad in England, Asia, the Tropics and at home here in Canada, to the history of painting. These new works by Michael Adamson endeavor to intrigue and delight as you revisit them again and again.
