Sopa Fine Arts is pleased to present a joint showing of work by: Jennifer Seymour and Tom DeGroot.
This exhibition continues to explore Jennifer Seymour's interest in transparency, light and lustrous architecture. Seymour's architectural panels are not a true likeness of her photographs as she carefully refines each composition to make the images duller, devoid of too much color, producing a blurry, sexy, hypnotic effect within a more limited color palette. Seymour's passion for creating mystery is always evident in her work, thru almost luminous, vertical and horizontal lines, we observe a movement of fluid shapes, unexpectedly found on static buildings.
Tom DeGroot's work uses varying saturations of paint and resin, which pool occasionally on his corrugated cardboard or wire assemblage, creating a glossy, almost porcelain like finish on each piece. The recurring wire or cardboard pattern interplay with the randomness of the resin drippings to create sensual, optical vibrations. Resin, with its transparency, fluidity and leveling, interacts beautifully with his materials; producing luminous vertical and horizontal lines, like Seymour bin in a more minimalist fashion.
Opening night for 'Light + Latitude' is July 5th from 7-9 pm.
