‘Continual EMBODIMENT’

OCT. 4 – 30

Sopa Fine Arts presents a joint exhibition, featuring the works of:
Rose Braun and Harry Gruenert

The exhibition will feature Braun’s signature oil on metal panel artwork, and paintings of rich color on both canvas and wood panel by Gruenert.

Motivated by a desire to convey what things actually are over what they may look like they are; Rose Braun's work embodies concrete ideas about images of places and people that are felt rather than seen. Often hinting of nostalgia, the work shows varying surface textures and distressed metal finishes that portray a slow passage of time. Her work is greatly influenced by storytelling as she tries to capture this brief moment between the image and narrative, made perpetual by its embodiment on the surface of the metal.

Rose Braun is an Okanagan artist who studied at the University of Alberta, the University of Regina and the University of Calgary. Sociology and Psychology were initially the focus of Braun's education before discovering fine art, and continue to impact her current work.

Process and materials are essential in Harry Gruenert’s work; the physical use of his materials and being aware that there’s an element of ingenuity in how he manipulates the paint on his canvases. By accelerating the process of ageing, Gruenert creates an illusive sense of time in his work. With a deep saturation of pigment, a pursuit of sparseness and beauty, Gruenert allows your imagination to wander and reminisce about the past.

Harry Gruenert was born in Aachen, Germany in 1955 and moved to the U.S. in 1983. Gruenert apprenticed with artist Michael Shemchuk for some time before turning to painting full-time in his own art studio in the San Francisco Bay area.

Braun and Gruenert shape concrete form from an abstract idea, which imbue both sentiment and longing. This show runs the entire month of October.

Opening night, Sopa’s First Thursdays, Oct. 4 from 7-9 pm.
