Sight Lines – joint exhibition with Jennifer Seymour & Stephen Booth
OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, JUNE 2nd 7-9pm
Sopa welcomes new work by Jennifer Seymour and Stephen Booth for our June exhibition of Sight Lines.
Visual artists view their artwork diversely; informed through varying life experiences, then translated into a physical medium. Reflecting a motley manifold of personal history. Booth explains it further, 'The individuality of artwork springs from the combination of many elements; however they are all finally embodied in the personality and vision of the artist. It is through their perceptions and explorations of themselves and their cultures, while viewed through the lenses of an ever-changing environment, which is at the root of all fine art.'
So when we view an artist's work, we're essentially seeing a culmination of knowledge and witnessing each artist's fascinations. Art then, becomes an artist's interpretation of themselves or their explorations... if they were successful in manifesting those ideas. From there, a viewer brings their own perceptions and interpretation into play, possibly encountering an overlap to something the artist was communicating. When that happens, and we 'get' the artists work, it's almost spiritual, like a little intuitive nudge that says, 'Aha'. For a chance to see what Seymour and Booth have been up to, Sight Lines will run through June 28.
