OPENING RECEPTION:THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5th 7-9PM
Folding, stacking, drawing, tearing... nothing works quite like paper for a multitude of purposes. Throughout history, the use of paper meant communication through various means, even when language failed. Paper has played a key role in the history of our culture. It's influenced the way mankind has passed knowledge from one generation to the next and has provided the backbone around which modern society and culture has developed.
Drawing lines, shapes or figures, people have evolved the creative ways we use paper over the years, particularly in fine art. While we've expanded our ability to communicate beyond simple words, paper offers artists unique opportunities to discover their visual language. From the time we are old enough to hold a crayon in our hand, and discover what great colors we can use together or how fun it is to put our own ideas on a blank page, people have challenged their creativity with its applications. Sopa has assembled a wide range of artist's works on paper, in a number of mediums, in this unique exhibition.
