SOPA FINE ARTS
NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

What an exciting opening night we had this month! With both artists in attendance, there was much to discuss as the artists explained their unique visions and processes.

The cool minimalist look and feel of Martha’s bold steel wall pieces and her steel and resin sculptures contrast beautifully with Cory’s intricate and immaculate figurative work.

COMING UP NEXT MONTH

Our Christmas show, 'Gifted’ is shaping up beautifully. We will be unveiling work by several artists new to Sopa, as well as featuring a new collection of work from current gallery artists. December also wraps up another year at Sopa, so not only are we having our annual Christmas party, it’s always Sopa’s anniversary each December as well.

Edmonton artist, Alayne Spafford plays with dichotomies such as order versus disorder and colour versus darkness in her understated, organic paintings. She'll have new work up in our 'Gifted' show.

Cory Fuhr’s enthusiastic energy was a welcome breath of fresh air as he spoke about his sculptures. We were also delighted to have Martha Sturdy with us as she is truly an icon in the world of art and design.

The Sturdy/Fuhr exhibition is an absolute must see and will be up for the rest of the month.

In The Studios...

Alan Boileau has just released a few new pieces this month. His wooden wall sculptures are whimsical and fun and the warm colours in addition to exquisite finishing make them perfect for both homes as well as a variety of corporate spaces.

Showing with us for the first time; Alain Attar's paintings are richly colored, heavily worked surfaces, which give a strong impression of the natural wearing of time.

Another BC Artist, Margaretha Bootsma incorporates ink, wax, acrylic paint, earth pigments as well as photographic elements in her colourful, landscape inspired paintings.

This upcoming show also unveils new work from a few gallery artists as well, so please let us know if you have any questions. If you would like to keep posted with regards to any new arrivals from particular artists, please email the gallery to be added to a special preview list.

‘I like a canvas to breathe and be alive. Be alive is the point. And, as the limitations are something called pigment and canvas, let's see if I can do it.’
