Welcome to the merry month of May!

Jordi Alfaro’s ceramic pieces in Sopa
This month’s ‘Stem & Sentinel’ features artwork by Spanish sculptor, Jordi Alfaro and a painter from Vancouver, Siobhan Humston. (Sounds like She-von) The beauty, quality and originality of these two artist’s works are truly appreciated and beautifully paired. We’ll have images of their new works on the web site soon, as well as exhibition photos.

Jordi Alfaro visits Alan Boileau in his studio
Kelowna’s own Alan Boileau has been commissioned to create a massive 75ft wide wall sculpture for a casino in Camrose, Alberta. Made in 8ft x 4ft sections, the piece was 2 months in the works and is being installed later this month.

Also we are very happy to report that Melissa Stern has won the American Illustration Biennial Competition, and along with 25 other artists from around the country, will be included in a large coffee table book due out next November. Her solo exhibition opens May 20 at Gallery 13 in Hunterdon, New Jersey as well as a solo exhibition opening in July at StudioSwan in Atlanta, Georgia. The show runs from July 20 to August 22.

COMING UP NEXT MONTH
Bryan Ryley exhibits ‘Upsetting the Clan’ next month from June 7th thru July 3rd. We're thrilled to unveil Ryley's newest body of work. His vibrantly colored canvases convey a vivid tension between the loose fluidity of his acrylic medium versus the rigid linear patterns that are created through the process of dragging the paint over the surface of the canvas. If you get a chance, drop into the gallery, you'll love our large-scale, dynamic installation by this well known Okanagan artist.

‘Upsetting the Clan’ opens June 7 and runs until July 3.
Opening night is June 7, from 7-9 pm.
