SOPA FINE ARTS
December - January NEWSLETTER
With Christmas just around the corner, it was fabulous to share in the festivities with our gallery artists, collectors, and friends this month. The aptly named “Gifted” group show proved to be a lot of fun as we enjoyed good wine, great food, lovely music and, of course sublime art! We would like to warmly thank all of those who helped us organize and facilitate the event as well as all of the guests who enjoyed themselves along with us. A big hug to Jacki Petersen for the wonderful appies she catered for us as well, they were quite yummy!
Opening Night for December’s exhibition
COMING THIS WINTER...
In February we will be showing the work of local artists Shawn Serfas and David Newkirk. Serfas’ colorful, heavily worked abstractions alongside Newkirk’s bold, gestural, geometric paintings are sure to inspire us this winter!

Shawn Serfas and his wife, Krista, are proud new parents of a beautiful baby girl, Abigail. Shawn teaches fine art at UBC Okanagan as well as having his own painting practice. Shawn will be showing in the Vernon public gallery in March as well as our show in February of 2008. We are looking forward to an exciting line up of exhibitions at Sopa, this upcoming year. Stay tuned!

‘GIFTED’ HOLIDAY GROUP SHOW
Cory Fuhr’s ‘Angler Fish’ sculpture
This month’s holiday show will be up for the remainder of December. It’s always fascinating for us to unveil new work and especially exciting when it’s from new artists to the gallery. Alain Attar’s pieces with their heavily built-up surfaces and warm colour palette were found quite compelling by all. This artist is originally from Morocco and one can really see this geographic influence in his work. Jylian Gustlin’s background as a graphics programmer for Apple Computer is evident in her richly colored paintings and intricate paper works. Her work stirred much curiosity, especially with the graphic designers and architects among us.
Alayne Spafford is another distinctive artist we’ve introduced to the gallery. Her experience designing costumes for the world-renowned Cirque de Soleil is prevalent in her whimsical, magical paintings. Overall, our opening night was quite rousing. If you were unable to make it, please stop in for a visit to see our new artwork and say ‘hello’.
