AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Isn't it hard to believe that another summer is almost at an end? We have had a busy year in terms of tourism, and we would like to thank all of our new and returning clients. We appreciate the response to our shows and artwork that we have featured. It's nice to see how our South Pandosy Village is changing into a great little shopping district with all the wonderful new shops!

Collectors Chris and Nancy at 'Ground Rules'

‘Ground Rules' Opening…
This month's Ground Rules exhibition with Christopher Griffin shows Griffin's exceptional color and surface markings. We are quite impressed by the distinctive technique he uses; his work continues to be popular among our collectors. Ground Rules is showing for the entire month of August. This is the second year one of our clients has commissioned Christopher to paint 50 pieces for his employee Christmas gifts; they were quite a hit last year, what a great boss!

COMING THIS FALL
During the month of October, Sopa will feature Rose Braun and Harry Gruenert. Look for a sneak peak next month…
Cory Fuhr has been busy working on new sculpture for his show in November; this show is sure to be a favorite among fans of Cory's steel sculpture.
Sopa is also pleased to host a book launch for a new Okanagan resident, Patricia Ainslie, Sept 20th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Her new book, titled 'Alberta Art and Artists' is now on store shelves. Patricia has 25 years of experience at the Glen Bow Museum, initially as an art curator and laterally as vice president of collections. She's a great asset to our thriving arts community; please join us in welcoming Patricia to the Okanagan. |

COMING UP NEXT MONTH

Next month's joint show features artwork from Deborah Bell and Victoria Johnson, both from the U.S. Northwest. Bell's imagery continues to reflect her interest in inter-lacings of unicellular life forms in aquatic realms; the elemental building blocks found in our observed physical world. Her new paintings are multi-layered, transparent, and atmospheric.
In Johnson's work, the content is the corresponding relationships that catalyze and form continuity; it begins to oscillate in the painting, balancing symmetry and declination. Johnson is masterful at knowing how to use color and form without ever feeling overdone or complicated.

“A work of art has a spirit. The spirit in these paintings is immaterial images that I arrive at through sequences of inspiration, by quieting the mind, and staying with a transitory feeling and emotion.
