Margaretha Bootsma received a BFA from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1995 and was the recipient of Canada Council Grants in 1998 and 1999. She is currently a Visual Arts Instructor at Kwantlen University College. Bootsma has had solo and group exhibitions across Canada, the United States and Europe. Her works are found in many significant public and private collections. Margaretha Bootsma creates work that reflects the fragile and ephemeral aspects of the shrinking natural world in which we live. Working with corroded metal panels, photographed landscapes, and encaustic colour-fields, she creates skillfully balanced multi-media works that push the viewer to examine their environment and their role within it.
Born in the Netherlands, Margaretha Bootsma has lived and worked in Vancouver, B. C. most of her adult life. She draws inspiration within the context of the immediate surroundings, studying local geology and current events. She received her B.F. A. from Emily Carr School of Art in Vancouver and currently teaches there. Bootsma is represented throughout Canada, including Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver.
